Moving a loved one into assisted living is hopefully not one of those things many of us will develop much experience with. For us, this past January was a first, and the incredible staff at Long Creek have made it a truly happy transition. One of the things that we worried about was shifting my parents from being surrounded by ‘family’ to being surrounded by a group of detached ’employees’. Looking back, that fear is almost laughable now. Hollie and her team have become family for both my parents and for us. My parents joke with the care givers, and they joke right back! We laugh at the front desk about the funny things my parents do, and at times cry together too. From the front desk, to the medical director and care givers, to the activities director and onsite physical therapist, the team is enthusiastic and skilled. They have created a loving and cheerful environment for all that enter into Long Creek. We receive routine updates and pictures of my parents engaged in daily activities. And since we’ve chosen to use a primary care physician who makes on-site visits and a pharmacy that has a relationship with Long Creek, the whole care experience is integrated.Perhaps the one experience that would best sum up Long Creek would be when my father suffered a medical situation that caused him to be hospitalized for a few days. When my husband returned him to Long Creek just after noon, my mom was at the in-house salon having her hair done. Hollie and many of her team (receptionist, medical director, care givers) met my dad in the lobby with hugs and cheers telling him how much they had missed him. You would have thought he was the king of Long Creek! Then they escorted him to the salon, stood by and cried together with my parents as they were reunited. We are thrilled to be part of the Long Creek family!-Staci and Ron Riffe

I never thought I would have to find a new home for my mother. She is one of the strongest women I know. However when she broke her hip in March, bouncing back was not as easy as it was when she had knee replacement or broke her other hip a couple of years ago. She made the decision she couldn’t live alone after being home from rehab within days. She asked me to find a place for her close to me. I came into this Long Creek on a Wednesday and Yvonne took me into her arms and told me “we’ve got this”, she could tell I was full of emotions. Within three days Mom was in her new home and with her own furniture.
It has taken Mom three months to settle in and to call this place home. She’s 90 years old so she is pretty settled on her ways and all I want is for her to spend her last years close to me and happy with her new home. You know the saying, if mom isn’t happy no one is!
The staff at Long Creek has spoiled her, one example is they make her a cup of coffee and cut up her breakfast pastry every morning. She suffers from arthritis and her hands don’t move very quickly in the morning. These care givers of the staff treat her with respect and as one their own family members. They call her by her name each and every time they interact with her.
When we’ve had discussions with management, they are compassionate and truly listen. I can say the first 30 days was learning curve for all of us but today three months later the staff has become our second family.
